Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: PE1451 - Country Western Dance I-IV
- COURSE DESCRIPTION: One credit hour, with two hours of lab, to teach beginning students the basic skills of the most widely used country western dance steps.
- PROGRAM AND DEPARTMENTMISSION STATEMENT: The SCCC/ATS physical education program will broaden the understanding of fitness for life by providing general education, appropriate technology, and professional development opportunities that promote a healthy lifestyle. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS: None
- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the
following SCCC Outcomes.
- Outcome #1 - Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply
knowledge gained to real life situations.
- Outcome #7 - Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the diverse cultures, creeds, and life styles of America and the
world community.
- COURSE OUTCOMES:
Students are expected to learn all required dances while
participating with classmates and instructor.
- COURSE OUTLINE: Dances to be taught in this class are as follows:
- Basic Country Western Two-Step with six (6) basic turns
- Basic Cotton-Eyed-Joe
- 8-Step Polka
- Basic Country Western Waltz with basic turns
- Electric Slide
- Free Style Cha-Cha
- Basic 3-Step
- Jitterbug
- Saddles-n-Satin (time permitting)
- INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
- Lecture
- Walk through/class participation
- INSTRUCTIONAL AND RESOURCE MATERIALS:
- Dance Instruction handouts
- METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: Methods of assessing the general course outcomes and the specific course competencies include actual dance testing, attendance record, attitude, and aptitude.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured by recall and performance of all
dance steps.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #7 will be assessed and measured by performance of dance steps from
different cultures.
